Free club membership for anyone up to the age of 25
Youth membership at Erith is a great way to get out sailing at a very low cost.
Youth membership is ideal if you are at school and looking to do some after school, weekend, holiday sailing.
Youth membership is not restricted to students – Erith offers membership of the club including acccess to all of its facilities free to anyone who is up to and including the age of 25 on 1 January of each membership year. This means that you can still benefit from a youth membership even if you have started working.
Because Erith Yacht Club is easy to get to from across Bexley and South London Youth Membership gives you the opportunity to get together with a group of your friends and go sailing close to home. You can also meet up with other sailors your own age at the club and organsie your own sailing activities or take part in club organised sundowners, sail training or buddy sails.
Discounted qualifications
Youth members can complete internationally recognised RYA Dinghy and Powerboat courses at Erith at discounted member prices. In a couple of weekends you can get all the qualifications required to hire and helm club boats. In the meantime you can sail with other club member’s boats or on a club dinghy at very low cost.
Access to club dinghies
Like other members Youth members who have completed a Level 2 Dinghy Sailing Qualification can hire club dighies to get out onto the water without needing to own a boat.
Immediate access
You don’t even need to wait to become a member because all of these benefits are available as a Prospective Youth member. Once signed up you can participate in sailing events with priority on opportunities to crew with experienced members or take your own boat sailing.
Youth sailing events
Erith operate specific Junior and Youth sailing events for younger members every second Sunday afternoon. Youth members are free to make use of all organised and independent sailing opportunities at Erith including Friday afternoon Sundowners and weekend sailing.
Opportunities for advancement
Many youth members have gone on to complete RYA dinghy instructor courses and other nautical qualifications that demonstrate their apptitude, skills and capabilities when included on CVs giving them the edge when appling for courses and employment.
Some youth members have used the workshop facilities and club tools to repair and restore dinghies benefiting from the years of experience older club members can provide.
Applying for Youth membership
Over 18
If you are over 18 just follow the standard process to join the club. Include your Date of Birth on your application form and pick the Youth membership option – Don’t forget to register as a Prospective member so you can get involved while you complete the membership process.
Under 18
Simply complete the Under 18 Youth Membership Form with your Parent or Guardian and get them to return it to our secretary@erithyachtclub.org.uk cc’ing membership@erithyachtclub.co.uk with their signature. (A photo or scan from your phone of the signed document is great). Your application can be approved at the next General Committee meeting.
