Come down to the club and go sailing with club members on Saturday 18th April
Our club bar will be open, there will be a BBQ on our clubhouse balcony and we will will get you out sailing. You can have a look around the club to see the amazing facilities available when you become a member.
Who’s this for?
Sailing at Erith is for everyone over the age of eight (the minimum age for our youth sailing sessions). Whether you have always had an interest in sailing but never tried, sailed elsewhere, on holiday or lakes or reservoirs around London our Open Day is a great opportunity to find out how fun and enjoyable sailing on the Thames can be and the range of options available at Erith.

What happens on the Day?
Our Open Day gives you the chance to:
- Try sailing in one of our safe, stable, club small sailing boats lead by an experienced club member or qualified sailing instructor
- Get invited aboard club members’ dinghies or larger yachts and cruisers for a sail so you can see the range of boats that you could own and keep at Erith if you were a member.
- Meet some of our club members and find out how you could get out sailing throughout the year as crew on yachts, in a club dinghy or even in your own boat.
The Open Day is also an opportunity to find out about the range of sailing programmes, training and events at the club that can introduce and the develop sailing skills of all ages of people.
Do I need to wait until the Open Day to visit the club?
No! – Our club is active throughout the year and visitors are always welcome. Check out our calender of events or come down on Sunday when our main bar is usually open. Come down to the club, meet some of our members and get involved in sailing.
What should I bring?
If you’ve never sailed before, it’s a good idea to bring the following items on the day:
- Warm clothes you don’t mind getting wet (depending on time of year)
- Shoes you don’t mind getting wet
- A change of clothes ( Just in case – We don’t expect you will get wet – but we can organise that if you’d like)
- Towel
- Sun cream
- Cash or card to get something from the Bar
- Picnic Food if you’d like to spread out on the lawn or balcony to enjoy the day watching the events out on the water
- Friends and family to enjoy the day
The club has a range of equipment such as waterproofs and buoyancy aids available for participants to use. We’ll get you sorted to get out onto the water.
When should I arrive?
Please arrive at least 20 minutes before the start of your session. This gives enough time to get kitted out and deal with any admin.
Do I need to know how to swim?
You need to be water-confident. This means, if you don’t know how to swim, you need to be comfortable floating in some water with a buoyancy aid.
How do I register?
Registration for the 2026 event is open now. Follow this link to book your place.
