Incredible event yesterday at the Thames Interclub Dinghy Event in Greenhithe!
We left Erith around 9:30 and sailed/drove down to Greenhithe. We moored up to the sea scouts pontoon, then went ashore to The Pier Hotel for some snacks we brought with us and refreshments.
Sean, the commodore at Gravesend introduced Paul Reynolds, the best race officer on the tidal Thames, who briefed all the sailors from Gravesend and Erith on the course, signals, and how to be nice to be nice to other competitors. But wait a minute, where were TYC? Looking down the Thames, about 4 sails appeared with a powerboat, making their way towards the pub, which is situated at the top of a public slipway. Time and tide wait for no man, so the briefing could not be delayed. Luckily they made it in time for R1.
4 boats from Erith took part, and they did really well, so congratulations to you!
- Alan & Jan were 6th, in the new club Stratos
- Paul N and Kerry Anne were 9th, in a Bosun
- Terry was 12th, in a Laser Radial / ILCA 6
- Lakshan and Ying were 15th, in a Bosun
The event was won by Mark Earley in a Laser / ILCA7, from Thurrock, and Gravesend won the inter-club trophy.
Overall, an amazing set of results from the EYC sailors! 17 boats raced in total, and in general, for us to do so well is a huge achievement, so congrats!
